Nelspruit at a glance

Nelspruit (CBD and All Major Extensions)

Central Nelspruit is the original part of town and close to the CBD. Many of the large old properties have been granted business rights and converted for office or commercial use. There are some untouched gems in this area for the enthusiastic home flipper or property developer: large family homes sporting original features, set in wild, untamed gardens. Its wide streets and proliferation of mature trees creates a pleasant atmosphere, with shopping, beauty parlours, hairdressers and schools nearby.

Nelspruit Extension 2 comprises the tail end of Murray/Mostert streets, including Village Spar and part of Van Wijk, Sheppard and Ehmke streets, while Nelspruit Extension 5 makes up the bottom half of Van Wijk Street, including Laerskool Bergland and Lost Trail Street area.

Decades ago, an address in the Van Wijk Street area meant you had arrived, as for long it was the height of poshness in town. And although it has subsequently been eclipsed by the grandeur of other developments, it remains a highly desirable area. Large mature gardens and houses set discreetly out of sight lend it a graceful, quiet air. Some streets are busier than others, but it is a popular neighbourhood for larger and mature families.

Nelspruit Extension 4 comprises the area on the east side of Ferreira Street, in the El Madre vicinity towards Matumi Golf Estate. Most of the large properties along the Ferreira Street service road have been converted into offices and businesses. An older part of town, it often turns up large properties with real star potential.

Nelspruit Extension 11 reaches from the top part of Ferreira Street (after El Madre Shopping Centre) until all the way past the Von Braun Street turnoff on the Uitkyk Road. Includes the area around Saturn Street. This quiet neighbourhood is away from it all, and large stands and mature gardens ensure privacy.

Nelspruit Extension 13 includes the Noordsig Estate and the area north of it off Dr Enos Mabuza Drive: Vuurvliegie, Sonbesie and Beetleloop streets. Noordsig contains spectacular examples of cliff-hugging luxury living and homeowners enjoy jaw-dropping views over the Lowveld, exclusivity and privacy.

The area just north is equally scenic, but popular with younger families. The uneven topography makes for interesting homes built on challenging stands, often with great views.

Nelspruit Extension 22 is marked by Leeupaadjie Street, east off Dr Enos Mabuza Drive. This neigbourhood is made of steep streets and challenging driveways, but some homes have great views and natural rock gardens. Popular with smaller families with easy access to schools and shops.

Nelspruit Extension 29 is a relatively new development on the eastern side of Nelspruit and has created a residential hub of young professionals and families in cluster living estates. It also houses Rubicon, a top-notch retirement village. Adjacent to two shopping centres (one existing, the other brand new), close to schools, the Maputo corridor, churches and mosques, these townhouse developments are popular as investment properties.

Nelspruit Extension 37 comprises Golf View Estate, a well-managed and secure complex bustling with young professionals and families. Access control and great security make this a popular option for buyers, either live-in or as an investment property. Close to schools, shops and with easy access to the Maputo corridor, it makes for easy, low-maintenance living.
