Based in the heart of the bushveld, the province of Mpumalanga is a bastion of relaxed living and stunning surroundings. The name of this historical province means “the place where the sun rises” which is apt since this province is located in the Eastern part of South Africa.

The city is surrounded by granite mountains and as this city expands, homes are being built amongst the beautiful mountainous scenery.

Just a stone’s throw away from the City of Nelspruit (Mbombela) are some of the oldest towns in the country. The history of the area is deeply entrenched in the gold rush that hit the Lowveld in the 1800’s. The historical landmarks also include rock paintings dating back centuries that depict a simple life. Visiting some of these towns will take you back in time as many of the towns have kept memorabilia from the era now past and have houses dedicated to history that display these items. Nelspruit was founded in 1895 by the Nel brothers who brought their cattle into the area to graze in winter.

The Nelspruit winters are hardly ever freezing while the summers are humid and very hot. Living in the sub-tropical climate of this area is very attractive as it rarely gets unbearably cold. The province of Mpumalanga is split into the Lowveld and the Highveld. The Lowveld is surrounded by mountains. In this area the heat is brought in by the Indian Ocean and it settles on the towns within, often this gives rise to magnificent thunder storms. The Highveld enjoys a different climate as it is much higher up than the Lowveld and it can get very cold.

The Mpumalanga Province is known for farming and for its wildlife. The province boasts many wildlife reserves in which people can view wild African animals in their natural environment. This is one of the most incredible experiences and when living Nelspruit, you will have the gateway to the Kruger National Park right on your doorstep. When living in Nelspruit you will be less than an hour away from this world famous national park. Nelspruit is a stunning city to live in, the scenery will be your constant reminder of just how close you are to nature.

Living in Mpumalanga is for those who are seeking a wonderful place to raise a family and a quiet place to live, away from the busy city madness. The Mpumalanga province should never be underestimated as a thriving business hub of activity. The cities and the towns continue to grow in size and in opportunity.
